Protecting our Freedom?

Time and time again, bush and his supporters have repeated that the troops in Iraq are fighting to "protect our freedoms". Excuse me? Just exactly how is the war in Iraq protecting American Freedom anyway? As far as that goes, how is the War on Terror as a whole protecting our freedom? How exactly has our "FREEDOM" been "threatened" to be lost in the first place? Well there is the Patriot Act. But besides that, who came here to America and said, "we're here to TAKE OVER dismantle your government, destroy your constitution, take down your flag and kill anyone who gets in our way?" When exactly were our halls of Congress breached by aggressors, (big business excluded for this argument) and who tore down the door on the White House after breaching her iron gates? I've yet to see some ominous face grace the television screen stating that "we are now under their control and you must follow orders", while tanks and trucks and planes filled with intruders roam our streets and skies. Who was it that breached our nation's shores in hordes armed to the teeth to declare martial law and caused mass panic in the streets as people tried to run away only to be gunned down from behind or shot at a security check point? Outside of Ari Fleischer's Sept. 11, 2001 comment that "people need to watch what they say", and protestors being stuck behind "free speech fences", I have no reason to believe that my library records have been confiscated by the FBI, or my phone tapped.(unlike some Americans have) Yet. I'm still free to hop in my car and go anywhere I want around America. I can obediently remove my shoes and have my bags checked at the airport to fly anywhere I want to fly and not fear I won't be allowed to return home. I can still access the Internet and share my opinions with anyone anywhere in the world, or read any opinion I may find there. So I ask again, exactly how is it that the troops sent to Iraq on "sexed up" intelligence are protecting my freedoms here at home?

We were ATTACKED on September 11, 2001, NOT INVADED by a foreign country's military and fire power. We were sucker punched (well there were warnings) on a beautiful fall day while Americans were focused on Gary Condit and Chandra Levy. The attackers all killed themselves in the act, and there were no follow up attacks by this group. Not even one. There were no mass hordes of invaders coming to occupy America militarily. There were no tanks rolling onto the White House lawn or scary faces on TV saying "we have overthrown your country and we are in control." And if America's freedom's are in jeopardy, why is our military thousands of miles away in Iraq and not here at home protecting us?

This war has NOTHING to do with our "FREEDOM" or our country's safety. This is a war of choice and nothing more.

Some people join the military hoping that one day they will get to kill the enemy and really shoot those big cannons they practice on all day. Some join because they love America and are willing to give their life if need be. Others join because they want to go to college and this is their best option. And others who have joined, served their time honorably, and have fulfilled their contractual duty, have LOST Their Freedom due to STOP LOSS. So, while bush and his supporters tell you that our troops are in Iraq defending America's freedom, some American soldiers are basically being held against their WILL forced to fight in a war of choice, while life in America goes on the same as it did before 9/11 for the most part.

I commend our military members for honorably upholding their oath and obediently following orders given them.(not the torture ones) I commend them for believing in their mission like they're told to do. I thank them for their service, but I cannot support this war of choosing.

"support the troops" was nothing more but code for "i support bush" and nothing more. bush USED our troops.
